Liam Payne has opened up about his ex partner Cheryl’s hopes for their son Bear – and revealed she does not want him to follow in their footsteps.
The former One Direction star, who became a dad at the age of 23, admitted that he also has reservations about the idea of Bear taking part in a reality show in the future.
When asked whether he’d allow Bear, three, to appear on a singing show like The X Factor, Liam replied: “This is a tricky one. I think his mum hopes he’s going to be this yoga person.
“His mum is very chilled these days.
“I would never stop him but I would let him know the risks. My parents did not experience what I had. I want him to do something he enjoys doing every day.”
Cheryl has taken a step back from the limelight in recent years, but made a brief return in February to encouarge fans to donate to Comic Relief.
Before that her last post came in December when she recorded son Bear giving a hilarious Christmas message.
The toddler could be heard saying: “Merry Christmas you filthy animals and a happy new year,” in a cute Geordie accent.
Bear is Cheryl’s only child with Liam who she split from in June 2018 after two and a half years together.
While Cheryl has kept her love life under wraps, Liam went public with model Maya Henry, 20, following the break-up.
However this week Liam confirmed he had called off his engagement to Henry, with a source close to the star saying he is hoping to spend more time with his son with Cheryl, 37.
Speaking with The Sun, a source said: ‘Liam just wants to spend more time with his son Bear since the split. That’s his boy, he means the world to him.
“He’s devoted to being a dad and making more time with his little man now he’s getting older.
“Liam is taking care of himself better now, working out more and a clean living lifestyle too.”

During an appearance on Steven Bartlett’s Diary of a CEO podcast, Liam admitted he went through a wild ‘pills and booze phase” in One Direction which made his face “10 times bigger” than now.
Asked about “moments of suicidal ideation”, Liam replied: “Yeah. There is definitely some stuff I have never spoken about to do with it. It was really, really severe.
“There were a few pictures of me on a boat and I was all bloated out and I call it my pills-and-booze face.
“My face was 10 times bigger than it is now. The problem was, the best way to secure us was to lock us in our rooms, and what is in the room? A mini-bar.
“So I had a party-for-one that seemed to carry on for years. It was wild but the only way you could get frustration out.”
